Yeye’s Agbo

What is this Agbo, business?

Agbo is something I grew up drinking. A herbal medicine filled with roots, herbs, and ?????? (lol). My parents kept it in a huge jug under the sink, and it was the go to whenever I had a tummy ache or made the fatal error of being constipated lol. Agbo was a bitter and mysterious medicine, but it always made me feel better. It makes sense that the new iteration of the Elemental Medicine would be something new to you but something familiar to me (agbo).

The medicine you know and love is still here, but in a form more true to my roots, and a nod to Yeye. Makes sense that a water Orisa would want the medicine named after a herbal drink, doesn’t it?

I hope this meets you where you are and supports you as you travel through the month.

Remember, these messages are general and cannot possibly relate to every single person who reads them; my hope is that it will resonate for many of you, though. Please, take what resonates and leave the rest.

If you would like to book a reading with me, I offer Ancestral Connection Readings here and the new general readings, Ilé ń kọ́ Reading - here. Feel free to check regularly if readings are sold out.

If the message is a hit and you feel led to bless the kid? $simplysope on Cash App, Venmo, and Paypal.
If you still love the monthly messages organized by Tropical Zodiac Sign? They are still available here (and will be $10 going forward).

As a gift, the January 2025 Yeye’s Agbo will be a PAP (pick-a-pile) for the year ahead.

Deck Used: The Akamara Tarot Deck + Alchemy of the Spirit Oracle

Pile 1

Chapter 1 (January - April)

North Star (Rx)

If Pile 1 spoke to you, then come get your juice. For January to April you lot got the North Star in the reverse position. In the upright position, the North Star speaks to a long road towards your goals, but success is assured. It feels like a card of unlimited possibilities. Success is the end goal but the work must still be done. When this card shows up in the upright, it speaks to finally being in alignment with your goals and destiny. It speaks to understanding your spiritual mandate and moving in that direction, even if the road is long and hard. In the reverse, it can speak to hopelessness, disappointment, and most importantly - refusing to seek help. For Chapter 1 of 2025, you need to remember that we are playing a LONG game. This life is a marathon, it isn’t a sprint. Losing motivation happens but you need to make sure that loss isn’t permanent. No human being exists alone. No only do you need to acknowledge your need of support, but please do not be so fucking stubborn that you reject it outright when it is offered to you. Or even WORSE, you don’t even bother to keep your eyes open to those who can support you.

Chapter 2 (May - August)

Iyaláwo (Rx)

For May to August, you got the Iyaláwo in the reverse. This card corresponds to the High Priestess in the Rider-Waite Tarot. In the upright position, the Iyaláwo speaks to intuition and tapping into one’s higher self and higher knowing. It is the card that symbolizes you understand the magic in you, and you are willing and working to cultivate it. In the reverse however, this is a gentle tug. A warning: you need to get off the sidelines and into the field. Often clients believe that being spiritual is for someone else, someone who mysteriously is never them. This card is saying that as we approach the 2nd chapter of the year, you are doing yourself an enormous disservice by dousing yourself in delulu. In the reverse, the Iyaláwo says that you know what to do but are refusing to do it. Who does that serve? If you are struggling? Get a cleansing bath and a divine clarity soap. Then actually use them lol. And a final remember - getting the message is only the first part. You need to actually trust the message and act on it. Do not let the packages Spirit is sending to your door remain unopened, Pile 1 Pals.

Chapter 3 (September - December)

3 of Cutlass

Welcome to Chapter 3, Pile 1 pals. For the final chapter of the year, you got the 3 of Cutlass (or the 3 of Swords) in the upright position. The 3 of Cutlass suggest the ending of relationships or loss, leading to heartbreak and emotional grief. Now before you start getting stressed, remember that agbo is medicine and sometimes medicine is bitter. Secondly, the 3 of Cutlass says that although endings are painful, that pain is accompanied by a new beginning. In order to fully embrace the new start, you have to acknowledge the pain and transmute it. The only way to will be through, Pile 1 Pals. Do not indulge in escapism (drugs, booze, other people) to deal with these endings. It won’t get you any closer to healed. Instead recognize that pain is a function of this human experience and work through it. You’ll be better for it.

Oracle Messenger

The Hummingbird

Pile 1 Pals, the Hummingbird comes as a reminder that this year you will need to be resilient. I wish the message was, “Soft life” but that simply isn’t realistic. I firmly believe that each of us must shore ourselves up for whatever lies ahead. The climate catastrophe, concurrent genocides, and the further ramping up of facism will not be remedied by giving up. The Hummingbird wants you to remember that you are being blessed with the strength to endure through challenges. You will in fact thrive, but you will have to pick up your weapon of choice and get to work. Fortify your spirit, fortify your networks, and know that all hope is not lost. Tighten up, Pile 1 Pals. Head up, chest out, and onward.

Pile 2

Chapter 1 (January - April)

Iya Calabash (Rx)

Hi hi, Pile 2 Pals! Your Chapter 1 medicine comes in the form of the Iya Calabash (Queen of Cups) in the reverse position. In the upright, Iya Calabash speaks to clairvoyance, empathy, and virtue. In the reverse however, she speaks to low self esteem, being overly dramatic, pessimistic, or being depressed. Look, Megan the Stallion said “this pussy depressed” and I felt that. Feeling depressed or feeling down isn’t a crime, but the purpose of this card is to give you medicine for this Chapter. If you are struggling with Seasonal Depression or Seasonal Affective Disorder? Take note. It can be so easy to slip into those feelings, like putting on a sweatshirt right out of the dryer. Consider this card a wellness check. Do not let the waves drown you. If you need to see your doctor about meds? Do that. If you need a sun lamp? Get one. Remember that our feelings are real but they do not have to be a prison, Pile 2 Pals. Understand that your emotions are powerful, but do not let yourself be overpowered.

Chapter 2 (May - August)

Akamara (Rx)

Pile 2 Pals, your medicine for Chapter 2 is Akarma (The World) in the reverse. In the upright position this card speaks to completion, fulfillment, conclusions, and wholeness. In the reverse position however, this card speaks to unfinished business, stagnation, and interrupted plans. Like I told the Pile 1 Pals, abgo is medicine and medicine is sometimes bitter. Just because the message is difficult, doesn’t mean you’re bad or your life will be bad, Consider this an opportunity. When I see this card in the reverse, I am reminded that sometimes we may have been taking shortcuts to get to our destination. You may be feeling a lack of motivation (leftover from Chapter 1) but do not let a slow down become a grinding halt. The call to action of this card is one of flexibility. Know that you will get to your destination, you just may end up taking some detours. I feel strongly that in this Chapter, you need to keep your eyes open for those who can possibly help you reach your goals, and stay open to being pleasantly surprised. There isn’t only one way to reach your destination. Make sure you keep that at the front of your mind.

Chapter 3 (September - December)

5 of Cowries (Rx)

Pile 2 Pals, if Chapters 1 and 2 have you feeling a bit down, Chapter 3 comes to bring some relief. For Chapter 3, you got the 5 of Cowries (Pentacles) in the reverse position. In the upright, the 5 of Cowries speaks to scarcity and financial troubles. In the reverse position, the 5 of Cowries speaks to small gains and a turn for the better. Consider this a sign that things are turning around in your favor. The turn tables are turning and you are finally seeing a light at the end of the tunnel. If Chapters 1 and 2 had you feeling down, you are now getting your groove back. Celebrate that and give thanks! Remember that life has seasons and a down season cannot last forever. Enjoy this stepping out into the sun, Pile 2 Pals.

Oracle Messenger

The Pendulum

Take a deep breath, Pile 2 Pals. The Pendulum comes with the assurance that your prayers will in fact be heard and answered. This card is literally a sign of answered prayers. Consider this an encouraging nudge. You are in fact in alignment, even if things are difficult and uncomfortable. This card speaks to trusting and building authentic connections. Make sure that as you move through the year, you are honest about who you spend your time with and why. I am not saying there needs to be an ANTM level ceremony, just that it is wise to prioritize things that are sincerely in alignment. Remember that the dissolution of friendships can be an answered prayer too. You want all things that are in line with your highest self. Stay true to that, and give gratitude for whatever leaves as a result, Pile 2 Pals.
